Ecuador Chocolate

The Andes mountain range divides it in two down the middle. Due to these distinctive geographical conditions, Ecuador is not strongly industrialised. It had maintained its family and land structures, despite strong migration towards the towns over the last thirty years.

Although production of cocoa comes far behind that of bananas, prawns and flowers, it has rekindled within itself a second black gold, the variety 'nacional cocoa', which exists nowhere else, except Ecuador.

Our supplier has been able to rediscover the original quality of these cocoa varieties and launch, with the producers, a major programme to re-densify the cocoa growing areas with plants chosen for their productive capacity and strong aromatic potential. Currently 18 cooperatives, united together at the heart of UNOCACE (Union of the Ecuador nacional cocoa producers), are in partnership with them.
